This is a coalition of area rescue groups and foster homes
working to place rescued and unwanted animals into new, permanent
homes where they will receive the love and attention they so richly
deserve.
To date we have placed more than 4,000 animals through the Adopt-A-Pet program. Some are
strays, often picked up by ACN volunteers on their rounds, some
are rescued from shelters, but most are given up by their owners.
All the animals shown at our Adopt-A-Pet events are required to
be clean, healthy, flea-free, of good temperament, up-to-date on
all shots and vaccinations, and are spayed/neutered if old enough.
Vet records are on-site and go with the adopter to set up files
with his or her own vet.
Older animals pose a special problem. They are generally
overlooked at Adopt-A-Pet events because of their age. To help them
find new homes, MAAN works hard to educate people about the advantages of adopting an adult pet.
Most animals shown are in foster care and the adoption fees
we charge help to offset the out-of-pocket veterinary costs incurred
by the foster volunteers.
