| Detroit Free Press (MI) June 6, 2002 OAKLAND TODAY Author: LORI HIGGINS AND HUGH McDIARMID JR. Cat adoption event set for this weekend Cats only. That's the rule this weekend during a cat adoption festival on the campus of Cranbrook Institute of Science, where more than 500 felines from eight rescue groups will be available. "This has never been done on this scale, to our knowledge," said Suzy Fucini, spokeswoman for the Michigan Animal Adoption Network, one of the participating groups. Cats and kittens will be displayed under tents on the Cranbrook campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Adopters will pay $100 for each cat or kitten adopted. Cat supplies will be available for purchase at the site. All animals will be up to date on vaccinations and -- if they're old enough -- already neutered or spayed. Fucini said the event was inspired in part by the successful "Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo" animal adoption events of the past 10 years. Dog adoptions often dominate that event. Cranbrook is located at 39221 Woodward Ave., between Lone Pine and Long Lake roads. For more information, call the network at 800-990-4343 or visit www.mi-aan.org. By Hugh McDiarmid Jr. |
