 Hurricane Katrina Rescue Efforts

Animal
Care Network volunteers traveled south to assist with
the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. MAAN volunteers have now completed
four
trips to hurricane-ravaged areas, rescuing 223 cats and dogs. Thanks
to the generosity of supporters, through financial contributions and
donations of supplies, the trips were possible.
Michigan Animal Adoption Network volunteers have now completed four trips
to hurricane-ravaged areas, rescuing more than 223 cats and dogs. Thanks
to the generosity of supporters, through financial contributions and
donations of supplies, the trips were possible.
Unfortunately, many of the animals brought back are in bad shape. Of the
36 dogs brought back from the last trip 11 were heartworm positive.
Heartworm disease is treatable but very expensive. In addition to the
heartworm disease, many have serious skin issues which must be
addressed.
MAAN volunteers did not journey for days with these animals only to give
up on them when receiving a dire diagnosis. MAAN will be treating all
animals brought back. Then, they will be placed in loving, permanent
homes.
The care of these animals depends on the continued generosity of private
individuals. MAAN could not have accomplished so much for the animals
without this support.
If you would like to sponsor the medical care for one of these lovely
creatures, a contribution may be made by credit card on this Web site
using Paypal. Checks
should be made payable to MAAN and mailed to PO Box 20523, Ferndale, MI
48220. We are grateful for any contribution -- big or small.
MAAN has joined forces with these fellow humane organizations to find
homes for all of the rescued cats and dogs. Dozens of other adoptable
hurricane survivors in a variety of breeds, ages, sizes are available
through:
Michigan Animal Rescue League, (248) 335-9290
or
Guardian Angel Animal Rescue, (734) 332-9459
Your response has been overwhelming and we are very grateful. Please be
patient with us if you try to call the office. Our volunteers have been
very busy stocking trucks for transport and placing the rescued animals.
Please contact the office by email and we will respond as soon as we
can.
